Menstrual cycle, the missing piece

We are in a new time in history.

This unexpected situation is giving us time to slow down and think about how this pandemic is going to shape our world, our life, and our way of work. Who we want to be when this finishes.

I am positively amazed about how many of us are using this time to ask ourselves difficult questions, trying to use this time to grow. Witnessing this got me thinking - how can we use this opportunity as women?
I believe the answer is by using this time to synchronise our life and our work with our menstrual cycle.

Let me tell you why.

Have you ever felt that you are always fighting against yourself? Have you ever felt frustrated by your changing moods and wish you didn’t have them so you would be able to work better?

Most women answer yes to these questions. I used to think in that way too, until something happened.

A year ago, I was in my home having a life crisis. I felt that nothing made sense in my life. My business seemed to be stuck, I wasn’t surrounded by the people I wanted and in general I felt that my life was a mess.

I began to write in order to find solutions and suddenly I realised something. This was happening to me every single month, specifically before my bleeding time.

When I realised this, I began to think what else usually happens to me every month that I thought was anecdotal but which is actually periodic. The list was huge.

My menstrual cycle had been showing me what was not working in my life and how I could feel better all along, but I wan't able to hear its message until this moment.

Your cycle is an intelligent process that can help you understand when is the best time for you to schedule your life, work and projects.

With awareness of where you are in your cycle you will be able to find a sustainable and efficient way to live and work, respecting your body, while reducing self-blame and increasing the productivity. It sounds good, right?

I will explain you how you can make the best out of it each phase. Try it and let me know how it works.

Menstruation, bleeding time

The moment to rest and recharge your energy. Our bleeding time invites us to rest so we can restore our bodies and be full of energy during the next
cycle.

You might think that you don’t have enough time to rest due to the huge to-do list that you have in your calendar. Don’t worry, you can begin small.

Start by resting 15 minutes more than usual and avoid as much social meetings as possible.

Connect with yourself and reflect on what projects you want to give birth to during this month.

Pre-ovulation

This is the beautiful time of the month when you go out of the nest you created in your menstruation time. You feel the energy in your body again and a sense of playfulness inside of you.

Playfulness and experimentation are the words for this phase. Use this time to bring into life what you have envisioned during your menstrual cycle.

Use this time wisely. Don’t overdo, as otherwise you will feel exhausted during the rest of your cycle.

Ovulation

You know the feeling of being unstoppable, of knowing that whatever you dream of can be possible?

After envisioning what you want to create and experimenting with ideas, it is time to take action. Ovulation gives you the gift of having incredible amounts of energy to do all you wish with it.

It comes also with an incredible confidence on yourself, so use this moment to give a speech or do networking.

Pre-menstruation

The cycle is finishing and something inside of you is asking you to reflect on how the month has gone.

Your inner critic speaks really loudly during this time of the month. Don’t use it to criticise yourself but instead use it for seeing what things require
your action.

The newness of this situation we are experiencing right now comes with the possibility of creating a better world for us, women. The pain we hold will never finish until we embrace every part of being a woman. And your menstrual cycle is part of it.

Let’s use this situation to change forever how we treat our menstrual cycle.
